Dear IT Architect, Dear Member of the GSE Architecture Working Group,

We are proud to announce our first meeting of 2011 of the Architecture Working Group. The theme of the day will be “The IT Architect Profession”.

While this seems to be a rather non-technical topic, it is certainly an aspect that interests a lot of IT and Business Architects that work across several sectors in multiple types of functions: what are the types of work done by Architects? What are the typical skills needed? Are there ways to “formalize” the levels of experience and knowledge required in a project? Are their open standards for IT Architect qualification?

If you think these questions are relevant for you or for your organization, do not hesitate to attend our meeting that will take place on March 18th 2011 in the IBM Forum in Brussels.

Attached, you find an agenda and practical information about how to enroll.

We look forward to meeting you on March 18!

Sincerely Yours,

The Organizing Team,

  • Erik Ombelets, KBC Global Services
  • Christine Bodart, BNP Paribas
  • Eric Michiels, IBM Belgium

Agenda and Topics
12:30 – 13:00 hrs
Welcome coffee offered by IBM
13:00 – 13:45 hrs
The IT Architect Profession within IBM
Speaker: Eric Michiels, Executive IT Architect at IBM Belgium
Abstract:
IBM makes a difference between “technical professions” and “job roles”. The technical professions are carried by a well elaborated career model and professional certification processes that guide the IT professionals in their career. The speaker will explain how these practices are applicable for the IT Architect community within IBM on a worldwide level and how they are supported with education, mentoring and management endorsements. Also, the relationship with the Open Group Certification (such as ITAC) is explained. Participants will be inspired about how to organize their own IT Architect practice, will learn more about which type of skill development paths they might introduce and/or take, and will be able to evaluate the value of the Open Group ITAC.
13:45 – 14:30 hrs
The role of the IT Architect within ING
Speaker: Rudy Wouters, Chief Architect Operations and  IT Banking Belgium
Abstract:
The Architecture profession at ING has matured dramatically over the last 3 years. The role of the IT architect has changed with it. Where architects previously only participated in the solution design within projects, they are now more and more involved in multi-year strategic and yearly planning cycles. At the same time, driven by the “direct” strategy of the bank, the focus of the IT architect has changed from pure application or technology based to end-to-end process and service based.
14:30 – 15:00
Coffee Break offered by IBM
15:00 – 15:45 hrs.
The IT Architect Community within BNP Paribas
Speaker: Christine Bodart, Lead Technical Architect at BNP Paribas Fortis
Abstract:
Architecture practice is born in BNPP Paribas Fortis in 2006, with the creation of “Enterprise Architecture”, “Functional Architecture” and “Technical Architecture” teams.  After some years of independent evolution, the different practices and processes have been integrated in 2010. In 2011, one unique team is encompassing the roles of enterprise architects, functional & technical architects, with different scopes, being reference architectures, projects and patrimony. Working “under architecture” has shown benefits and architects are now regularly called to provide additional services.
15:45 – 16:30 hrs
“Digesting” Drink offered by IBM

IBM Forum Brussel, Bourgetlaan 42, 1130 Brussels
